When you think of a trip to Lofoten, you don't always envision an overnight stay in your electric car, but that's exactly what we did! Here is a short account of our exciting and slightly unusual trip.
Day 1: Svolvær – The city that never disappoints
We started our journey on 16 August with a drive to Svolvær. After finding a nice spot for the night, we settled into our car. No luxury hotel here, no – just us, an air mattress and the stars above. Svolvær was our first charging stop, and we woke up early the next morning to explore the town a bit before heading to the Viking Museum.
Day 2: Viking times and Paddleboarding
Next stop was the fascinating Viking Museum. Here we got a glimpse of what life was like in the Viking Age, and we wandered around among old buildings and interesting exhibitions. It was almost like traveling back in time!
After a historic morning, we went on to Reine, one of the most beautiful places in Lofoten. Here we rented paddle boards and paddled around in the crystal clear waters. It was an experience of a lifetime - seeing the majestic mountains and the mirror-like water from the paddle board was nothing short of magical.
On the way back from Reine, we had to stop and snap some pictures of the two iconic bridges in Lofoten. There is something special about the long, winding road that cuts through the magnificent landscape.
Our last stop for the day was Henningsvær. No trip to Lofoten is complete without a visit to this picturesque village. We were able to take some fantastic photos of the harbor and of course the famous football pitch which is right by the sea.
Day 3: Accommodation in an electric car and meeting with nice Swedes
When night came, we pumped up our trusty air mattress and got ready for a good night's sleep in the electric car. It was surprisingly comfortable and definitely a fun experience. We had a little camping party in the car, complete with snacks and good stories.
After a good night's sleep, we drove back to Svolvær to charge the car and have breakfast before the journey home. While charging, we met some Swedish tourists who had problems charging their car, as their cards did not work at the charging stations. We helped them charge the car and they were incredibly grateful for the help. It was a great way to end the trip, with some good old-fashioned neighborly help.
All in all, our trip to Lofoten was filled with experiences, laughter and a bit of improvisation. Spending the night in an electric car may not be for everyone, but it made our trip extra memorable. If you ever get the chance, we recommend taking a similar trip – who knows, you might find a new favorite way to camp!
Good trip! 🚗✨
